The mySMARTLife project group tried to coordinate construction and energetic refurbishment projects in the retrofitting area Bergedorf-Süd to combine the necessary heat supply in heating networks on block scale. The first of these so called "heating island" includes a combined heat and power production (CHP) unit that serves heating power for a hotel and 50 housing units. Furthermore, this action exemplified a new role of the municipality as an initiator of innovative energy supply concepts.
